A representation and celebration of people's lives ...

This is a square to honour and remember the many who may not be individually represented on this quilt.

When someone dies by suicide, the initial suffering and pain can be magnified by imagining you can do nothing in its wake.

We wanted to take that negative, take that dark moment of time, that nightmare and turn it into a positive – not to make what’s happened a positive, but find a way of turning the pain into purpose.

We want this quilt to remember all those who have tragically ended their lives by suicide, to get people talking about suicide and recognise that it is complex and multifaceted illness of the mind, to encourage people to recognise that none of us “move on” from the loss of our loved ones and to be compassionate both to ourselves and one another.

Sending love to all those we have lost even if we cannot speak their individual names

Proud to be part of the Speak Their Name community

The Speak Their Name Charity was set up recently and has brought together all the different regions in the UK who have produced or want to make a Quilt.

Importantly their ambition is to guide grief into purpose.

For many families, channelling their loss into suicide prevention efforts or supporting others brings meaning to their tragedy. This shared purpose creates sustainable momentum for change that individual efforts struggle to maintain. The Speak Their Name Charity are contributing to suicide prevention across society by harnessing the voices of the bereaved, and amplifying them so that business leaders, educators, and decision-makers are prompted to action.

They are also campaigning on several fronts including educating and informing Coroners' Offices about how they can better support suicide bereaved families.
